Notefish Help Center: Researching The Web |
Collecting
It's easy to copy notes to your Notefish page if you have
the Notefish browser extension installed. Simply:
- Highlight the portion of text you want to copy.
- Right click on it and select "Copy to Notefish"
- The note will appear right in your 'current' page. If you keep the page open in another window,
it will immediately appear at the bottom of your page.
If you want to copy notes to a page that is not set as your 'current' page, then select the
'Notefish: Copy to..' option when you right click, and then you are given the list of your page to choose.
Once you choose your page, the note goes into that page.
We suggest the following steps in your Web research:
- Start researching as you normally would. When you find relevant information, highlight it and right click
on it with your mouse. Then, select the 'Notefish: Copy to...' option. The very first time you do this,
Notefish will ask you to create a page, where the notes will appear. Next time you copy a note to the same
page, simply select 'Notefish: Copy' and the notes will appear in your current page, without going through
the steps of creating a page.
- We suggest that you keep your notes short and copy only the information you need.
We find that it's most effective to take multiple notes from the same page instead of creating one large note.
- Organize your research. Arrange notes by dragging and dropping them into a logical order.
Then, create sections to reflect the main subjects of your research and change the color of notes
to suit your needs.
Take a look at our Laptop Research sample page for ideas
on how to organize your product research.
Once you get used to using Notefish, you'll probably find an organizational method that works best for you.
You can also look at the Notefish Shopping Tag
in the Notefish Tag cloud, which lists the most relevant
pages to shopping.
Your note is now in your current page. If you haven't organized your page into sections, it will appear
at the bottom of the page. If your page has sections, it will appear in the "New Web Notes" section at the
bottom of the page until you drag and drop it into the appropriate section.
Organizing
Yes - easily! Just grab the title of your note with the mouse, drag it and drop it in its new location.

Click "New Section" on the toolbar that appears in the bottom right corner of your screen.[[[[SCREENSHOT]]]]
Yes, you can! Place the mouse somewhere to the right of the title of the section, and an Edit menu option appears.
Click the "Edit" link for that section and specify where you want it to appear by using
the "Place After" option.
The manual notes option allows you to make any comments or enter notes manually.
Simply click the "New Note" link on the toolbar and enter your comments. [[[[SCREENSHOT]]]]
Formatting Notes
You can use simple text codes to format.
For example, if you put double apostrophes around a word or sentence, it will become italicized:
''this is in italic'' becomes this is in italic
Just leave an empty line between your paragraphs. However, note that a single line break is ignored.
For italic, put double apostrophes around a word or a sentence: ''italic'' becomes italic.
To make a word or a sentence bold, use triple apostrophes ('''):
'''bold''' becomes bold.
Yes, and it is very easy. Just type a URL in your note and it will automatically become a link.
For example, www.notefish.com.
You can also use an e-mail address.
Use asterisks in the beginning of a line. For example,
* This is my first item
* This is my second item
* This is my third item
will become
- This is my first item
- This is my second item
- This is my third item
